When Jon called Hurricane Fence Co about installing a Bon Pergola with a fan in his backyard, Martina Scheuermann met with him to talk through the details. During that conversation, the discussion expanded beyond the pergola itself to the space underneath it; Jon wanted a deck there but was concerned about moisture getting trapped beneath the structure. Martina recommended a composite deck for its low-maintenance, moisture-resistant qualities, and the two agreed on concrete footings set into the ground to give the deck a stable, long-term foundation.

To protect against New Orleans's notoriously damp climate, the team took extra precautions from the ground up. They installed treated pine joists coated with a marine-grade protective finish to guard against rot, then added a plastic and gravel moisture barrier both underneath and around the perimeter of the deck to keep dampness away from the structure entirely. For the decking surface itself, the crew used an Endeck composite product, and Martina noted being genuinely impressed with its quality, right down to the color-matched screws, which blended seamlessly with the deck boards for a clean, polished finish. By the end of the project, Jon had a beautifully finished, moisture-protected deck built to complement his new pergola, and he was thrilled with the final result.
